Korben and I tackled our basic core subjects this week as planned (although he did do additional Math that boosted us ahead of schedule)
In My Father's World we continued with Proverbs 16:24, talked about Biblical culture and dress, as well as learned Long Vowel sounds and the 'OO' sound. Korben is reading the book Biscuit Goes to School for his independent reading this week. Together, we read several chapters in Charlotte's Web.
For Science, we are on our last week of Mercury. We have learned that it has no atmosphere, is full of dust and craters, is the closest planet to the sun as well as about it's orbit and rotation. We made a model of Mercury and completed our Notebooking Journal Activities (including copywork and vocabulary)
In Spelling, we did 20 more words including those from the consonant teams 'Th, Sh and Ch'. I also dictated over 20 phrases for him to spell.
In Math, we are still doing Addition and Time. We are adding +1 to numbers in the 100's, next week we will begin adding +2. For time, we are reading clocks on the half hour.
Eli has been involved in nearly everything we have done this week. He has worked on his handwriting of all 26 upper- and lowercase letters in addition to all of the fun reading and science projects we have done! He also went to pre-school this week where he has been doing a lot of art, as well as constructing some pretty cool buildings from recycled materials.
Our extra afternoon activities have revolved around bugs this week. We were inspired when the boys picked some carrots from our garden one evening and placed them on the kitchen counter. The next morning, when I went to make my coffee, I was startled to find 3 very hungry caterpillars! We borrowed a friend's butterfly habitat and have enjoyed watching them eat, grow, climb and now, form their chrysalis'. We also observed a large garden spider in our garden. We even "fed" it a potato bug from our garden. The boys loved seeing it spin the beetle up in its web and then eat it! We have also charted insects in our garden, measured insects and for art made symmetrical butterflies and egg-carton caterpillars!Hazel has been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar
